L’histoire de la Petite Mosquée dans la Prairie est assez simple. Mercy est une petite ville dans la région des Praires en Saskatchewan. La vie tranquille de cette bourgade va être bouleversée par la venue d’une communauté musulmane. Comble de l’outrage, ceux-ci ouvrent une mosquée. Le tout baigne dans une atmosphère caricaturale post 11 septembre.
Un imam, un révérend, un chef spirituel, un maire, un chroniqueur radiophonique, un chef d’entreprise, sa femme convertie et leur fille s’entrechoquent dans cette truculente comédie sociétale. Parmi les protagonistes de cette sitcom, nous retrouvons Carlo Rota, un acteur anglo-canadien de la série américaine 24 heures Chrono.
Le 14 juillet dernier, les Français avaient le choix entre deux programmes, les images du président Nicolas Sarkozy pour le défilé de la fête nationale, ou la petite Mosquée dans la Prairie sur la chaîne privée Canal+. Avec 10% de sa population de religion musulmane, la France devrait particulièrement apprécier ce choc des cultures.
Après un Gars une Fille et le Coeur a ses raisons, il est agréable de constater que l’hexagone apprécie les séries en provenance du Canada. Espérons que la Petite Mosquée dans la Prairie retraverse l’Atlantique pour faire une tour au Québec, où elle n’a pas encore été diffusée en version française.
