Le nom du groupe musical québécois Les Colocs prend son origine dans la suite 2116 à Montréal. André Fortin partageait à l’époque un appartement avec plusieurs personnes. Ses colocataires sont devenus ses camarades de chant, pour former par la suite Les Colocs.
Comme de nombreux artistes québécois, dans les années 90, Les Colocs militaient pour l’indépendance du Québec. Pour soutenir le OUI au référendum de 1995, ils ont lancé un nouvel album le 30 octobre, jour du vote.
Le groupe a vécu de nombreux changements. Comme un logement en partage, le collectif voit de nouveaux musiciens arriver, partir, puis revenir. Au cours des années, Les Colocs offrent dans leurs chansons un riche mélange de blues, de reggae et de musique traditionnelle.
Dédé Fortin est un peu le Kurt Cobain québécois. Outre qu’il partageait le même talent musical, il mit également fin à ses jours à la fin de sa vingtaine, le 8 mai 2000. En novembre dernier, la famille du chanteur a inauguré la Fondation André Fortin, vouée à la prévention du suicide.
Sous des sonorités reggae/afro, la chanson “Tasse-vous de d’là” est un bel hommage à l’amitié.

En lisant la biographie de Dédé, on se rend compte qu’il a toujours été malheureux. Tout ce qu’il voulait, c’était faire de la musique et rester dans l’anonymat, cependant, le rêve de son grand ami, Patrick Esposito Di Napoli, était de devenir célèbre avant sa mort. D’ailleurs, c’est écrit sur son site.
Dédé ne pouvait pas suppporter cette pression qu’est la célébrité, et il parlait souvent de suicide. Sa famille, ses proches et sa blonde savait que le jour viendrait… et il est venu ce jour.
Malgré sa fin tragique, Dédé et ses colocs sont un emblème pour les Québécois et tout le monde connaît au moins un de leurs chansons. Ils étaient des génies de leur époque, tout comme bien d’autres groupes ou artistes Québecois trop souvent oubliés dans ce monde “American way” d’aujourd’hui.
