Il y a des lendemains de veille qui font mal à la tête. Ma soirée au party de Noël de la Station C et de Exvisu était pourtant bien sage. Non, ce n’est pas la bière qui me donne des nausées, mais plutôt la conférence de presse de Harper qui me laisse comme un mauvais goût dans la bouche.
Que représente ce chèque de Harper ?
Quatre milliards de dollars, répartis entre le gouvernement fédéral et la province de l’Ontario, pour aider nos amis du sud. Quatre milliards de dollars pour faire oublier la crise créée par des sociétés irresponsables. Quatre milliards de dollars pour faire rouler les vieilles guimbardes de General Motors et Chrysler. Quatre milliards de dollars pour continuer à consommer 20 litres de pétrole aux 100 km et pour nourrir la guerre au Moyen-Orient.
Un pansement sur l’industrie automobile
La crise a bon dos. Elle permet de faire passer des pilules grosses comme des montagnes. Qui peut encore croire que la crise est responsable de la faillite de l’industrie automobile américaine ?
Si GM, Chrysler et même Ford ne vendent pas de voiture, c’est tout simplement que leurs produits sont très loin de répondre aux besoins des consommateurs. Comme nous vivons dans une société basée sur la loi de l’offre et de la demande, les produits inadaptés sont logiquement mis au rebut. Et les compagnies qui les commercialisent se transforment ou disparaissent.
L’argent tombé du ciel, ou plutôt de nos poches, ne fera pas de miracle. Les constructeurs américains avouent eux même que ça leur permettra de tenir jusqu’en mars 2009. Et après ? Va-t-on devoir organiser un retrait automatique sur nos comptes bancaires pour alimenter le goutte-à -goutte des géants déchus de l’automobile ?
M.A.J : Le copain Patrick Dion a eu la même réaction épidermique avec l’annonce du finanement de Chrysler et GM par le Canada. Par l’intermédiaire d’Isabelle Gaumont, il a trouvé cet interview de Michael Moore qui dis tout haut ce que je pense… tout haut 
Je suis en conflit d’intérêt, parce que j’ai été élevé dans une famille Chrysler (mon père y a travaillé pendant 34 ans) et ma mère retire sa pension de veuve de l’entreprise depuis 8 ans.
L’industrie de l’automobile est un employeur majeur sur le territoire canadien. Pour moi, et possiblement pour le gouvernement Harper, l’appui accordé aux cies d’auto permettra de protéger, un peu plus longtemps, les emplois des 45 000 Canadiens qui sont à l’emploi des ‘big three’ – on ne compte pas ici le nombre de nos co-citoyens qui travaillent pour les fournisseurs (fabriquants de pièces auto etc).
Un calcul rapide du nombre de Canadiens qui tomberaient en chômage durant la présente crise économique si ces entreprises devaient déclarer faillite me permet de penser qu’on aurait à payer ce montant en prestations d’assurance emploi de toute façon.
Je préfère permettre à ces Canadiens de garder leur emploi et leur dignité encore un peu plus longtemps, dans l’espoir que l’industrie puisse, effectivement, se moderniser comme tu le décris. Et ce de façon rapide.
Il ne faut pas oublier le facteur humain, dans tout ça.
@Michelle: C’est certain que je ne réagirais pas de la même manière si j’étais touché directement par le sujet. Je ne suis pas un sans cÅ“ur, et je compatis à la détresse de personnes qui ont toute leur vie travaillé dans la même entreprise qu’ils voient aujourd’hui disparaître à petits feux.
Pour reprendre une discussion sur Twitter avec un ami. Le chantage à l’emploi permet d’éviter d’aborder les vrais problèmes : une logique industrielle obsolète & asservissante. Préparons l’avenir de ses travailleurs. Mais ne leur laissons pas croire qu’ils continueront 107 ans à produire les mêmes voitures.
Concrètement, je préfère qu’on investisse cet argent pour financer la reconversion des travailleurs: formation, reconversion, aide à la création d’entreprise, valorisation des technologies locales, etc. Plus facile à dire qu’à faire. Vrai ! Mais, si personne ne le dit, encore moins de monde le fera.
Enfin, si le Canada veut vraiment financer un constructeur automobile, qu’il le fasse avec Toyota, Nissan ou d’autres compagnies qui ont un peu plus d’avenir dans le secteur. Avant que la crise éclate, les 3 grands Américains perdaient des parts de marché à vitesse grand V, même sur leur territoire, pourtant ultra protégé.
Pour moi, les gouvernements, américains et canadiens, sont autant responsables que les constructeurs automobiles. Ils ont contribué au résultat que nous avons aujourd’hui. Je ne les laisserais pas jouer sur l’émotion pour faire avaler cette improbable pilule.

Je suis d’accord avec ton commentaire Laurent à un détail prés. Il faut effectivement changer la façon dont les choses fonctionne mais en ce moment l’heure n’est pas au changement mais à la stabilisation.
C’est un peu comme dire à quelqu’un qui vient de ce blessé en fessant un sport, qu’il devrait porter tel protection et agir de tel façon au lieu de s’occuper de sa blessure.
JP, ta comparaison avec une personne qui vient de se blesser est excellente. Il vient de chopper la gangrène à une jambe et nos gouvernement lui propose de mettre des pansements et de ne pas lui la couper, tout ça parcequ’il l’aime bien sa jambe et qu’elle lui a rendu de bon service dans le passé. Malheureusement, la gangrène se propage dans le reste du corps, et on n’a pas besoin d’être médecin pour connaître la fin.

Un jour proche, le Canada pourra peut etre se détacher du pesant voisin du sud et ainsi prendre malgré toute doctrine Monroe sa place véritable dans le concert des nations.
En Europe c’est pareil, on soutient ou on veut soutenir l’industrie automobile à coup de milliard sous le pretexte de la protection de l’emploi. Emploi qui n’interesse personne lorsqu’une entreprise vire quelques milliers de salariés juste pour faire monter ses actions en bourse. Il est inacceptable dans une économie de marché de soutenir des entreprises qui ont pris les mauvaises décisions et qui pire continueront à les prendre après avoir englouti les milliards des contribuables.
